The Street Party of the Century

600+ Organisations, 90Years, 10 000 Lunch Guests, 1 Unique Patron

The Patron’s Lunch will be held this Sunday to celebrate the Queens 90th birthday, her 63 year reign and her service to over 600 different organisations. Hoping to be dubbed the Street Party of the Century and held on The Mall,  10,000 people will be provided with a Marks & Spencer hamper and entertained from 10:30 – 4:30pm. My curiosity lies with what will be served and could we bring this into our summer party catering?

Reading the menu the ideas can definitely be brought into your summer picnics in the parks or cold buffet option to cater for friends and family, either by recreating the items at home or you could pop into Marks & Spencer’s, they are stocking most of the menu items on their shelves.

Wherever you are in the world you could host a Patron’s Lunch, the picnic ware is available online and shipped internationally. The £7 celebratory pack includes 10 paper napkins, 10 paper plates and 3M paper bunting. This is available from the Patron’s Lunch shop.

There is a lot of misconception on holding a Street Party in the UK here is the official in and outs from the governments website Celebrations Across The Nation For The Queens 90th Birthday. Here is a sample of useful information on the site:

Street Party Myth-Busters

  • You don’t need to fill in complex forms. For most small parties in quiet streets, all your council needs to know is where and when the closure will take place so they can plan around it.
  • You are not required by law to pay a charge for closing your road for small residential street parties in England, so if asked for a payment make sure to check what the charges are for.
  • You do not require a music licence at a street party unless amplified music is one of the main purposes of the event.
  • There is no requirement from central government to have public liability insurance and many councils do not insist on it.
  • The Food Standards Agency has confirmed that one-off events such as street parties aren’t usually considered food businesses, so there are no forms to fill in and you don’t need a food licence.

I hope you have been inspired to host your own Street Party or in the least given you ideas for your next summer get together.
